About Beverley Courtney
Living with dogs all my life led me into training and competing with them - in Obedience, Agility and Tracking. My dogs ended up with many more letters after their names than me! And my little Battersea Dogs' Home stray, Poppy, became Working Trials Champion Flower of Battersea, C.D.Ex, U.D.Ex, W.D.Ex, T.D.Ex. I've caught up with some of those letters by qualifying in Canine Behaviour and Training at Warwickshire College, and CAP1 and CAP2 in Clicker Training with Kay Laurence. I'm currently working on CAP3 and learning Heelwork to Music with my young collie Rollo.
Training with Gwen Bailey to become the Puppy School Tutor for this part of Worcestershire and Herefordshire gave me more insight. And with continued reading, seminars and courses on behaviour and training, I am keeping up to date with the science of dog training.
I've had such fun with my dogs down the years, and I've learnt so much about how they think, that I'd love to help others discover the remarkable understanding we can develop with them.
Starting puppies the right way, with reward-based training - so logical to dogs! - will help new puppy-owners understand why their dogs do what they do, and how to help their puppy fit in with us and what we do.
Living with a dog does not mean that you have to be hauled along the pavement for the next twelve or so years nor have your furniture chewed to bits, your food stolen and your guests molested. I'll show you how!
As well as training dogs, Beverley draws them too. With a degree in Art and Design from London's Camberwell School of Art & Crafts, she captures the animal's character perfectly in her portraits - you can see her work at beverleycourtney.com
